It is always interesting and challenging to interpret Spencer Carvill’s regular reads in “Debate Argus”. Worth Voting? (The Argus, May 4) brings such opportunity.

A question posed about whether or not it is worth voting in local elections, without any conclusion, finally morphs into a brutal barrage against Brighton and Hove councillors and the council itself.

Spencer makes claims such as “...the council throws good money on trivial projects”.

Then comes “they have no idea how to manage our finances” and “this council seems unable to master controlling the sub-contractors they employ (who) seen to do as they like.”

A gloomy outlook indeed. Yet with an unusual flourish into silent movies Spencer reminds readers of Laurel and Hardy and the “fine old mess you got us into” syndrome.

With the breadth and depth of his undoubted expertise and experiences from business, why not use this positively? May I suggest Spencer Carvill offer this knowhow and knowledge to Brighton and Hove City Council as a consultant?

In the spirit of keeping council tax increases as low as possible, by offering this savoir-faire free of charges, we are all happy.

Doubtless chief executive Geoff Raw will appreciate the additional skill and guidance and Spencer could even cut overblown executive salaries in the process, so saving council taxpayers a mountain of money.

QED. Spencer shares his expertise for the benefit of the whole of Brighton and Hove.

Next stop, when Spencer’s talent is finally revealed to the world, we might just save all the cost of councillors and elect Spencer as the first elected mayor of the City of Brighton and Hove.

Welcome to Utopia. Just a thought.
