PREDICTING the future is an ability we all wish we had.

Well, this eight-tentacled friend at the Sealife Centre in Brighton may have it.

Pumpkin the octopus anticipates a Manchester United win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final tomorrow.

Two balls, one red and one blue, were dropped in her tank today.

And the eight-month-old went for the red of United.

The idea came about when a worker suggested Pumpkin is "so intelligent she may have special powers".

Whether she does or not, only time will tell.

Dr Kerry Perkins, cephalopod expert and aquarist at the Sealife Centre, said: “Pumpkin is so intelligent, we’ve been wondering for a while whether she may actually have some form of special power.

"It’s so exciting to finally put this theory to the test and I for one will be watching the match in anticipation and cheering on Man Utd this weekend.

"I have every faith that Pumpkin has pointed us in the direction of the match winner, watch this space.”

If Pumpkin is correct in predicting the outcome at Wembley, she may follow in the tentacle-steps of fellow octopus Paul, who rose to international fame between 2008 and 2010.

Paul accurately selected the results of four of his native Germany's Euro 2008 matches, along with all seven at the World Cup two years later.
