ALBION have been commended for their work in trying to provide the best possible facilities for disabled fans.

The club are “proactive in addressing issues when they are identified” among their supporters, and the Amex exceeds the number of recommended seats for the disability sections.

That was the outcome of the latest Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) State of Play report, which asks all 20 Premier League teams about the accessibility of their ground and the services they provide to disabled supporters.

Since the Seagulls got promoted to the top flight last year, bosses have been working on ways of improving the experiences of disabled fans in both the home and away sections of the Amex.

The club is now working closely with Autism Sussex and Albion in the Community, their charitable arm, and creating an “inclusion room” at the stadium – a sound-proofed quiet space with a sensory room which will overlook the turf.

Seats will also be provided outside the room, with its users able to move into the main part of the stadium if desired.

The EHRC report states the club also “provides well in excess of the recommended minimum number of amenity and easy access seats” – in both the home and away sections.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber said: “We’re really pleased that our hard work has been recognised with the results of the findings from this report. We have always taken a positive attitude towards improving the facilities for our disabled supporters, and pride ourselves on the regular dialogue between ourselves and these fans – the findings show the positive changes we have made.”

The report is another great result for Albion, who have set themselves high standards throughout the season as they .

They broke the record attendance at the Amex against Liverpool on December 2, and eclipsed their matchday takings during that fixture – scooping more than £1 million for the first time. Last month they topped the table for the best Premier League matchday experience poll, based on atmosphere, how well-run the club and other aspects.
