A QUIZ night held at a garden centre raised funds for vital hospice care after heartless thieves had struck

Tates of Sussex Garden Centres invited employees, friends and family to take part after South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks had closed for the evening.

Twelve teams of six attended, each paying a registration fee to take part, to raise funds for St Peter and St James Hospice.

The quiz night was held to help replace sponsorship money raised by staff at the sponsored Firewalk, held at Plumpton Racecourse in March, which was sadly stolen from the garden centre before it could be given to the hospice.

Steve Parsons, branch manager of the Brighton Road garden centre, said: “We work closely with St Peter and St James, and it was heart-breaking telling them that the money raised by our fire walkers had been stolen.

“We knew we couldn’t let them go without, so we held the quiz night to help raise this money again.”

St Peter and St James Hospice is located in Chailey, near Lewes, providing hospice care to adults living in the surrounding area. They also support families and friends of patients through the challenges of bereavement and grief.
