Brighton has been revealed to be the fourth least affordable UK city for housing.
Data specialist CDO Partners, based at the Sussex Innovation Centre in Falmer, has been analysing how easy or not it is for people to buy property.
The housing affordability ratio is based on the price of a house divided by the average salary calculated for that city.
Only Oxford, London and Cambridge are less affordable than Brighton, where the average house price is 14.3 times the average wage.
The study also shows housing in Brighton is becoming less affordable every year, way more than the national average, raising questions of how people in the city can get on the housing ladder without either a significant increase in salary or a reduction in house prices.
The graphic below shows the data and allows you to compare different cities.
What do you think can, or should, be done to improve the situation in Brighton? How can house prices be brought down or salaries increased? Have you been priced out of buying a home in the city? Add your comments below.
