THE editor of The Argus has won a prestigious award at a ceremony in the USA.

Argus Editor Arron Hendy won the Newsquest divisional award at Gannett’s annual On Point Awards ceremony.

The awards?—?which celebrate bold thinking, innovative ideas and the extraordinary contributions made by employees across the company?—?were held at the Gannett/USA Today Network HQ in Washington, Virginia.

Arron said: “It was an honour to be invited to Washington for the fantastic awards ceremony?—?everyone in the US has been so welcoming and made sure we felt like the great part of the Gannett family that we are.

“I was absolutely thrilled to win and want to thank everyone at The Argus as the award is testament to the huge team effort we have put in over the last 18 months.”

“We’ve really changed the newspaper and website content to engage our readers and this award comes because of the way everyone has made it such a success.

“I’d like to thank Henry Faure Walker, editorial director Toby Granville, Sussex MD Tony Portelli, and Sussex and South London Group Editor Andy Parkes?—?and all the other people who have been a great support and helped me in my Newsquest career to date.”

Aside from editorial, Jo Coady who works in newspaper sales & promotions in Oxford won the Unsung Hero award, while Cornwall commercial director Jason Gill was a finalist for the Impact Award.
