ALBION want to bring fans’ favourite Inigo Calderon back to the Amex.

But not until he hangs up his boots.

The Basque right-back has already been sounded out about a permanent off-field role at the club.

He is among the senior professionals Albion would love to get involved.

In The Argus today, chief executive Paul Barber explains how the wheels are already in motion to develop a “boot room” culture at the club.

Calderon, who has a sports science degree, a masters in sports psychology and coaching qualifications, has already been told he would be welcomed back.

He would consider a more formal offer when the time comes.

Calderon used Albion’s training facilities at Lancing on a recent trip to Sussex and has done scouting for the club.

His home town club Alaves have also told him they would love to employ him off the pitch when he quits playing.

The 36-year-old is in negotiations with Chennaiyin, the club with whom he won the Indian league this year.

He is also considering playing offers from Spain and will complete his Pro Licence in coaching this summer.

Barber told The Argus: “The likes of Bruno, Calderon, Sidwell, Rosenior are all players who, when they finally decide to hang up their boots, we would love to have as part of the club in some way, shape or form.”
