WE ALL know congestion on our roads is becoming an increasing problem and something clearly has to be done.

Indeed, it is becoming so dire that one member of The Argus editorial team, travelling by car yesterday from Seaford to the office in the centre of Brighton, chose to abandon his Mercedes in a vacant parking spot in Peacehaven having been stuck in a jam without moving for half an hour.

If you live in Brighton and Hove or indeed the surrounding areas then there is really no point in having a car if you are making short journeys.

Brighton and Hove Buses managing director Martin Harris is keen to see all of us hop on the bus, which is eminently sensible, especially as a full double decker takes the equivalent of 75 cars off the road on a daily basis.

There is also the option of cycling, but that is becoming increasingly dangerous as the congestion increases and tempers invariably fray.

Walking or running is another healthy option but for some of us a half marathon from the fringes of the city to and from work is beyond our capabilities.

There are also those of us who actually enjoy driving but if you live in this part of Sussex then the chances of enjoying the experience is at best remote.

Therefore taking the bus makes perfect sense.

Leave the car at home during the week and hop aboard.

It is less stressful, the chances are you will get to work on time and you can always read The Argus on your journey.

The Government’s clean air strategy is clear and public transport and cycling are at the forefront of those plans.
