A recycling initiative is looking for people called Phil to take part in a world record attempt.

Whether you are a Phil, Philomena, Felipe or Pip, Refill Lewes invites you to Pells Pool in Lewes tomorrow.

They are hoping to get the largest gathering of Phils in history.

Pells Pool is having its annual grand opening event tomorrow, where it will be refilled with natural spring water.

Refill Lewes is part of a national campaign to encourage people to re-use their plastic water bottles by filling them up with tap water.

In doing so, the campaign aims to reduce the need for people to buy single-use bottles.

Anyone named Phil who wants to join in should head down to Pells Pool at midday for a photo.

The event will help draw attention to the Refill campaign and the launch of Refill Lewes.

Anyone called Phil, or a variant of it, who turns up with ID will get a free reusable water bottle and a free swim.

Karen Dobres, who does the PR and marketing for Refill Lewes, said: “We were originally looking to get the most refill stations in our town, but with Brighton on 208 and Bristol on 419, we decided to give ourselves a more realistic campaign.

“Our challenge is now to get the most Phils together to achieve a world record.

“We already have a couple of high-profile Phils coming along.

“Phil Rhodes will be coming along to play Neptune and bless the water, and the manager at Pells Pool is called Phil Ransley.

“Everyone who comes along, whether they are called Phil or not, will get a free cakes.”

There will also be races with a Paralympic gold medal winner, a quiz, a treasure hunt and other activities for children.
