David Barling is pictured in an RAF rescue launch off the coast of Brighton.

He is a long-serving councillor who was first elected at the age of 26 as a member of Hove Borough Council.

He held various posts during his time on the council, such as chairman of planning, chairman of housing and deputy leader of the council.

In 1983, he became the youngest mayor that Hove has ever had, and one of the youngest mayors in the country at that time.

Today he is chairman of the Chanctonbury County local committee.

Scottish comedian Billy Connolly is pictured here on a motorbike in 1981, and also on stage with his guitar.

He starred in a television series called Billy Connolly’s World Tour of England, Wales and Ireland and a documentary called Billy Connolly’s Route 66.

Antique dealer Mike Dawes is pictured here with a Palladium car in 1975.

Palladium was a car maker which was operational between 1912 and 1924.

Mahlon Patton, pictured here in a vintage vehicle with Francis Davis, was president of the Antique Automobile Club of America in 1961.

This may be the Francis Davis that invented hydraulic power steering while working for Chrysler Corporation in 1951.

Former politician Norman Fowler is pictured in a hot air balloon piloted by Tim Broughton on Brighton seafront in 1979.
