TWO people have been taken to the hospital after a lorry and a van crashed.

Emergency services were called to the A27 at around 4.50pm today to close off the road.

Two dogs were pulled from one of the vehicles.

They did not suffer any serious injuries and were taken to a nearby vet.

The road remained closed while Sussex Police recovered the vehicles.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We attended a road to a road traffic collision on the A27 just after 4.50pm today.

"We rescued two casualties from the vehicles using our hydraulic rescue equipment.

"They were taken to the hospital by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"We left the scene just before 6pm. We sent out three engines, all from the Worthing fire station."
