REPORTER Amir Razavi got in the mood for this weekend’s Naked Bike Ride with a quick spin on the old Argus delivery bike.

The young reporter was careful to make sure he got nothing tangled in the chain as he got into his birthday suit.

He decided to have a bit of fun in support of the ride, which is held each year, using nakedness to raise awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists and the need for safer roads.

The ride is also held to promote more ecological ways of travelling.

Amir said: “It’s classic Brighton.

“Everyone should embrace it, it’s a bit of fun and you are doing no harm to anybody.”

There will be more than one moon rising above Brighton today with a naked pod flight for members of the Brighton Naked Bike Ride group on the i360 ahead of their nude cycle through the city on Sunday.

“We’re expecting quite a few bums on seats,” said Steve Bax, executive director of the seafront attraction. “We’re unashamedly proud to be right behind this.”

The annual Brighton Naked Bike Ride promotes bike-friendly roads and raises awareness about oil dependency.

This year, there will be special emphasis on the role of cycling in women’s liberation, marking 100 years since women gained the right to vote.

The nude cyclists will “take off” into the Brighton sky in the air-conditioned and heated glass pod at 8am, with many wearing nothing but their birthday suits.

About 20 participants are expected to attend, complete with bicycles and body paint. Some may be half-dressed as suffragettes.

Sara Nixon, who is part of the organising team, said

“There’s a strong link between cycling and women’s empowerment throughout history. “We’re excited to dedicate the ride to this theme this year.”

WE'RE THRILLED, SAYS ORGANISER

NICK Sayers has helped organise the ride since 2006 and was over

the moon about the support of the i360.

He said: “Brighton Naked Bike Ride has always given participants a quirky ‘naked sightseeing’ view of the city as the protest has made its way through the streets.

“We’re super-excited to now be able to see our beloved city from above, in the altogether.”

The Brighton Naked Bike Ride meets at The Level park at midday on Sunday and sets off at 1.30pm. i360 visitors will experience

an aerial view of the naked riders as they cycle past between 1.30pm and 2pm.

Visitors boarding public pod flights at British Airways i360 from 10am on Friday are reminded that normal clothing requirements will apply.
