A road reopened after a man was reportedly hit by a bus and a woman collapsed during the rush hour.

First aiders, paramedics and police responded to the two separate calls in North Street shortly after 5.30pm.

Traffic was diverted by Brighton and Hove Bus workers while the patients were treated.

First aiders reported that a woman was given CPR on the pavement outside the TK Maxx store.

Meanwhile a man was treated after he was reportedly hit by a bus, though he appeared to have suffered minor injuries.

A first aider from Brilliant Brighton Ambassadors at the scene said the incidents happened within moments of each other, but said staff from nearby stores helped police and paramedics.

Both patients were taken to hospital.

The bus company tweeted at 5.46pm: "Due to an incident in North Street, all westbound services are diverting along the coast road and up West Street.

"There are also a number of buses stuck on North Street as a result. Apologies."

The road has now reopened.
