JAKE Walker deserves a round of applause even though you have probably never heard of him until now.

He is a Brighton lifeguard which, as we all know in a coastal town, is a vital job.

They are there to help anyone in distress, but Jake, 23, is a man who is prepared to go the extra mile and extend the hand of friendship and show great chivalry too.

As reported in today’s Argus, Jake was alerted by a passer-by to the predicament of an elderly woman who was struggling to make her way across the shingle towards the sea.

Many would have turned a blind eye, but not Jake.

He not only went to her aid but, holding her hand, took her for a paddle in the sea and proving in the process that he is a true gentleman.

Jake said: “This lady came round and asked if someone could help.

“I said “yeah, I’ll give a hand and we just walked down and had a little paddle. Then I walked her back.”

Jake’s actions were captured on film and posted on Facebook and it has already been viewed nearly 3,000 times with many praising him.

And quite right too.

His manager Charlie Branson summed it up perfectly, saying: “This is a great nod to Jake and his personality in general.

“He is a great guy and both helpful and kind.”

That he most certainly is and Jake certainly deserves the recognition and plaudits he has already received.

It goes to prove that amid all the doom and gloom there are still some good guys out there.
