JOB seekers from across Sussex attended a free two-day training session preparing them for the world of work.

Work Ready is a project delivered at The Amex stadium in Falmer and the Amex 1 John Street office in the city centre.

The course was staged by Albion in the Community, Brighton and Hove Albion’s official charity, supported by American Express.

AITC staff and Amex colleagues mentored participants looking for help with their job search, entry into further learning, apprenticeships, work experience or volunteering.

Over the two days, workshop sessions focused on job search/routes to employment, application form, CV and covering letter writing or refinement, interview techniques, social networking and communication skills.

During a stadium tour, participants met staff employed at the Amex to discuss the skills needed to undertake their roles.

These included Sodexo (hospitality) staff, grounds people, stadium assistants and customer services representatives from the club store and ticket office.

Lucy Symonds, Albion in the Community tutor, said: “Work Ready is a great way to engage job seekers of all ages, whether they are looking for their first job, a career change, or returners to work.

“Feedback from participants showed they really appreciated the opportunity to hear first-hand from people undertaking a wide-range of roles at the Amex and the skills needed to undertake their jobs.”

The annual event, now in its eighth year, is one of a number of opportunities open to Amex colleagues as part of Serve2Gether.

This is the company’s UK volunteer programme, providing community service opportunities for individuals or teams of up to 50 colleagues.

Participants will have the opportunity of on-going mentoring by Amex colleagues in the coming months to build on their progress.

Albion in the Community is the official charity of Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.

In the last 12 months AITC has worked with more than 30,000 people in Sussex and delivers 60 different projects and programmes.

Through the power of football and the brand of Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, AITC aims to deliver opportunities that improve the health and wellbeing, education and aspirations of its community.
