When a swarm of bees was spotted on a bicycle by Portslade Station, there was only one man to buzz.
Brighton and Hove City Councillor Robert Nemeth is a professional beekeeper – and has been busy in the last few weeks.
So the super apiarist had his bee-keeping suit at the ready. He said: “The phone just kept pinging. Fortunately I was around the corner in the car with the beekeeping gear on anyway. I got straight over and went to work.”
After making a bee line to the scene and carefully collecting Boundary Road’s latest residents, Cllr Nemeth took them to Pyecombe for a new place to buzz. He said: “Why they picked a bike saddle in a busy location is beyond me.”
Pictures of the rescue were posted on the aptly named Facebook community page Buzz On Boundary.
It was the latest in a hive of bee activity in Hove. Cllr Nemeth has rescued and rehomed many swarms including those on a car bonnet in Grange Road and a watermelon in Church Road.
