Blind veterans will be leading the celebrations for Armed Forces Day this year.

The event will be held at Greenways in Ovingdean, and gives ex service personnel a platform to showcase their work.

It is hosted by Blind Veterans UK with the support of the Royal British Legion and associations including the Sussex University Royal Naval Unit.

There will be stalls, challenges and activities including children’s rides, military and classic cars, and a performance from the Salvation Army Band.

The Band of the Welsh Guard will also be playing.

Meanwhile there will be displays by the cadets, and a new dog show with prizes for doing the best trick, having the waggiest tail, and for looking most like their owner.

Blind Veterans UK regional fundraiser Rachel Chitty said: “Armed Forces Day is a fantastic opportunity for us to welcome the local community to our centre and show our support to Service men and women both past and present, including the blind veterans we support.

“We have a jam-packed schedule of activities for the day so I think it’s fair to say there will be something for everyone.”

There is free entry to the event, and parking available for £1. Gates open from 10.30am and close at 4pm at Greenways in Ovingdean on Sunday, July 1.
