THOUSANDS of football fans headed to the beach to watch England beat Panama 6-1 in our second World Cup match.

Luna Beach Cinema on Kemp Town beach in Brighton was full to its 3,500 capacity with excitable England supporters, many of who were draped in St George flags.

The sun-drenched spectators went wild as England knocked in six goals against their Panamanian opponents.

Sam Mitchell, 22, travelled down from Haywards Heath to enjoy the match in Brighton.

He said: "Football is coming home this year, I just have a feeling.

"This is our year.

"I watched the first game in Haywards Heath but as it is Sunday, my friends and I thought we would come down to Brighton for the atmosphere, the football and the lager."

Mike Richards, 30, came all the way from Hampshire to watch the game on Brighton seafront.

Speaking just as the match started, he said: "I like the big screen, the atmosphere and all the people collected in one area.

"There is a new fresh approach to the way England are playing.

"This year's squad is different to previous World Cup teams.

"We look more confident on the ball."

As England's goals mounted up, the mood went from excited to ecstatic, with cheers emanating from crowds along the coastline.
