Thousands of women will be running the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK today.

The event is held at Stanmer Park in Brighton along a 5km route.

It will be followed by the Pretty Muddy 5km run tomorrow, which last year saw 2,500 participants taking part.

Meanwhile some 1,300 took part in the Race for Life on the Saturday, and there were also many volunteers at hand to make sure the event ran smoothly.

Last year volunteer Melanie Waller said: “I just thrive off the excitement of it all and it is a great vibe, with everyone here for the same reason.

“Race for Life really is an exceptional event on behalf of a great charity that does so much good.

"It really brings people together, I just love it."

This year organisers want to raise more than £200,000 for Cancer Research UK from the event.

There are still places available for entrants before the race starts at 11am today.

Entry costs £10 for children, £14.99 for women, and is free to girls and boys under the age of six.

Runners taking part in the Pretty Muddy 5km event must be older than 13.

Entry in the event tomorrow costs £10 for girls and £19.99 for women, with four race start times at 11am, 11.15am, 11.45am and at 12 noon.
