BRAVE officers who faced down a man with a sword have been presented with an award.
Sergeant Matthew Songhurst and Sergeant Christopher Bryant were called to Worthing town centre in February.
The suspect was allegedly waving a sword at cyclists, but the two officers put themselves between him and the public.
They were then able to calmly diffuse the situation and remove the weapon from the streets.
After the incident the suspect was given an eight-month prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months.
Their award was presented at a Gala dinner at Arundel Castle by Chief Inspector Miles Ockwell and Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne.
The event included presentations to officers across the West Sussex divisions Adur and Worthing, Chichester, Crawley, Horsham, and Mid Sussex.
It was also attended by the High Sheriff of West Sussex Caroline Nicholls and Chief Constable Giles York.
