BRIGHTON is expected to become one of the top performing cities in the UK in terms of economic and employment growth across the coming months and years.
The UK Powerhouse study is produced by Irwin Mitchell and the Centre for Economics and Business Research.
It provides an estimate of growth and job creation within 46 of the UK’s largest cities at least 12 months ahead of the government’s official figures.
The report revealed that Brighton’s economy grew by two per cent in the first quarter of 2018.
It was also ranked in the top 20 in terms of employment growth after recording a rate of 1.4 per cent.
However, looking to the future, the report went on to predict that Brighton would rise up the Powerhouse table in both the short and long term.
The city is expected to break into the top ten in terms of growth by the end of the year.
It is thought Brighton will see its workforce increase by 17.5 per cent between now and the end of 2028.
Its economy is predicted to grow by 16.9 per cent across the same period.
Victoria Brackett, CEO at Irwin Mitchell’s business legal services team, said: “Brighton is performing well at present and our latest report offers clear indications that the city is expected to enjoy a very bright future.
"Brighton is building on its strengths and is expected to drive significant increases in job creation over the next decade.”
