YOUNG film degree student Ollie Durnford today merits a special mention after proving to be the ultimate Good Samaritan.

Ollie and his group of friends came to the rescue of a young woman who was visiting Brighton when they noticed she was disorientated after having her drink spiked.

The woman, Kate Flood, was overwhelmingly grateful to the group for coming to her rescue and put out an appeal on Twitter to try to find them so she could say thank you.

As is so often the case with social media, Ollie and his mates were soon tracked down and Kate was able to pass on her thanks.

There is, however, a stark lesson to be learned. When out and about in our city on a night out and if you choose to have a drink or two, then keep an eye on it at all times.

Like most big cities, Brighton and Hove has many attractions but it is always worth remembering that that there are people who want to harm you as well as those who are willing to help like Ollie.

There are also those who seem to delight in damaging other people’s property, presumably because they get a “kick” out of it.

Neil Hilton bought a coach three months ago which he planned to renovate so he could take his family on a holiday to Europe next year.

It was a lovely idea but that dream now lies in ruins because a group of yobs decided the best way to spend their evening was to set fire to it.

Mr Hilton has been overwhelmed by the response of the community in Moulsecoomb who have rallied round the family. They deserve our praise while the yobs should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
