A '90s TV legend is set to bring the gunge to a wrestling ring over Pride weekend.

Dave Benson Phillips, most popularly know for presenting the kids’ show Get Your Own Back on CBBC between 1991 and 2004, will be taking to the squared-circle at Brighton promotion Riptide Wrestling.

On August 3, Dave will be teaming with Irish star Session Moth Martina to take on the heel duo of Chief Deputy Dunne and Los Fedaralos Santos Jr, also known as the Anti-Fun Police.

Fans will be hoping to see him bring his signature green gunge, a staple of Get Your Own Back in which children and their family members would compete against each other with the loser being dunked in the green goo, make an appearance over the course of the show.

In terms of experience Dave used to referee wrestling events at Pontins theme parks.

Speaking of his thoughts ahead of the event, Dave said: “I’m very much looking forward to it.

“I’ve only done a little bit of wrestling recently at the Horsham Funday Sunday, and I got a taste for it again.

“I used to watch it and get excited about it, but I always wanted to be a performer.

“Throwing people around the ring was something I would watch other people do, but I didn’t expect I would ever do it myself.”

The bout takes place of the second night of Riptide’s three-day wrestling weekender which runs from August 2 to August 4.

53-year-old Benson Phillips recently made the rounds on social media for taking to the ring for professional wrestling promotion Kapow.

Dave is also well known in Sussex, having worked closely with a number of charities in the area.

His soon-to-be tag partner Session Moth tweeted following the news saying: “I also cannot wait to see @DaveBensonPhill In my leopard-print onesie and raving to sandstorm. BANTS”

The wrestling-filled weekend will end on Saturday, August 4, in crowning Riptide’s first ever Brighton Champion.

Whilst Dave isn’t in the tournament itself he’ll be hoping to steal the show in Brighton.
