HOVE and Portslade’s Labour MP Peter Kyle cares passionately about issues affecting the city and has never been afraid of speaking his mind.
His fellow Sussex MPs, regardless of political affiliation, are equally passionate about their constituents but Mr Kyle, when asked for his views after disgraceful racist graffiti was sprayed on the wall of an underpass, certainly hit the nail on the head with his forthright condemnation.
He said: “It’s rare these days to find someone with such extreme hatred coupled with such stupidity that they would feel their rage should be shared with the rest of us. This kind of thing takes hate to another level and I hope whoever did it pays the price.”
It begs the question who in their right mind would write such an offensive slur on a wall, especially a word so offensive to so many people, and then accompany it with a crudely scrawled swastika?
Indeed, so offensive is said word that The Argus has covered most of the letters up in the picture which accompanies the report.
Fortunately, this appears to be the “work” of just one twisted individual and as Mr Kyle says, we can only hope that person is apprehended and faces the courts for inciting racial hatred if they are identified.
Brighton and Hove and the surrounding areas are known for their inclusivity which draws so many people to our city.
Saturday saw Trans Pride take place with many bystanders applauding them and wishing them well. Pride takes place next month when thousands take part in one of the most anticipated events of the year. However, to combat prejudice there is still much to be done.
