Newlyweds who have raised more than £26,000 to help save the seafront have had a very Brighton wedding.

For their big day they were accompanied by the city mayor Dee Simson, serenaded by a singing barber, and received two free rides on the Volk’s railway.

Jax Atkins and John Oetegenn, who live in Brighton and describe themselves as “over 41”, have been engaged for 17 years after meeting in a Kemp Town pub.

Jax said: “We’ve been together all these years and I still love him and fancy him as much as when we first met.”

The train ride was given by the railway to thank the pair for their efforts to restore the seafront to its former glory.

After having a first dance in Middle Street, the wedding party headed to the seafront for fish and chips. The train passed beach huts which have Jax and her volunteers’ faces on, put there by the council as a thank you for a successful Madeira Terrace crowdfunder.

The group then had a reception at the Sidewinder pub in Kemp Town, heading up the seafront lift in the Concorde 2. Jax said: “It was all just wonderful.”
