JOBS are at risk as Brighton’s local radio station is set to be replaced.

Juice 107.2 began broadcasting in the city as Surf in 1997 before adopting its current name in 2003.

Europe's largest radio company, Global, bought Juice in February.

Now it is set to rebrand the station as Capital Brighton.

It means some jobs at Juice are under threat, The Argus has learned.

But Global would not say which roles, or how many.

Capital is due to start broadcasting in the city on Monday, September 3.

And the new owner have promised listeners a "fresh line-up of presenters", as well as local news, sport and travel.

There had been speculation over the future of Juice following the takeover earlier this year.

Global bought Juice from UKRD who had purchased it in 2016, ending the station’s run as a locally owned company.

The takeover was part of a string of station purchases made by Global across the UK.

Dave Goodings, who has worked as a digital presenter at The BRIT Awards and The X Factor, and Miranda Burns, have been announced as the hosts of the new breakfast show, which will run from 6am to 10am every weekday.

Meanwhile, Niall Gray, a regular host on the Capital network, will present a new drive-time show on weekdays between 4pm and 7pm.

Global has also said listeners can expect to hear big names from the music world across the week.

These include: including Marvin Humes, Will Manning, Aimee Vivian, JJ, Ant Payne, Sarah Story, The Bassman, Sonny Jay and Jimmy Hill.

Ashley Tabor OBE, founder & executive president of Global, said: “We’re proud to bring the fresh new sound of Capital to the vibrant area of Brighton and Hove.

“Bringing it [Capital] to Brighton and including local and national news and entertainment is very exciting.

“We’re looking forward to working with new advertisers and partners in the area and connecting them with hit music fans through Capital.”

Capital Brighton will continue to be broadcast on 107.2 FM, digital radio and online at capitalfm.com

Other cities which have their own Capital station include London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.

Radio stations run by Global reach around 25 million people per week, with 8.3 million of those coming through Capital.
