AN artist from Worthing has been using her talents to raise money for a homeless charity.

Illustrator Sarah Edmonds taught an Alternative Botanical Illustration workshop at Emmaus Brighton and Hove.

Ticket sales from the sold-out event raised funds for the Emmaus Greenhouse project.

Attendees used watercolour paints and pencils to create a number of artworks each and the workshop ended with a show-and-tell session for people to share their work with the rest of the group.

The event took place on the Greenhouse terrace, where participants were surrounded by an interesting mixture of outdoor plants, patio furniture and garden gnomes.

The artist Sarah Edmonds said: “Everyone created completely unique pieces and it was great to have so much greenery on the table to inspire the workshop.

“I loved watching the group getting to know the materials, at first making careful marks and then becoming more playful with colours and shapes.

“By the end of the workshop we had a really vibrant display of truly delicious illustrations!”

The Greenhouse social enterprise was launched at Emmaus in 2012 and sells home-grown plants alongside a vast selection of second hand and handmade gardening goods, most of which are donated by members of the public.

The Greenhouse can be found in the conservatory at the back of the Emmaus Second hand Superstore and amongst other things is home to a secret Seed Swap drawer, as well as a ‘living table’ which displays succulents and cacti for sale.

The terrace is a spacious outdoor setting for a programme of art and craft workshops which included macramé plant hangers.
