A man has been found in connection with three incidents where women reported they were being followed late at night.

They had reported a strange man walking up behind them or following them, mumbling, and making threats in Brighton city centre.

In two incidents the suspect reportedly threatened the women with a knife, while in another it was claimed he indecently exposed himself.

Police say it was a “frightening ordeal” for the women, who were out late at night on Thursday, August 9 and Friday, August 10.

But now they say the suspect has been found.

The first incident was reported at 11.05pm on the Thursday, when a 19-year-old woman was walking in London Road.

She noticed the man was following her and challenged him, to which he mumbled a reply and told her he had a knife.

Police say she didn’t see a knife, but ran into a McDonald’s restaurant, while the suspect ran off past St Peter’s Church.

Then ten minutes later a 48-year-old woman was walking north in Richmond Parade, again a man mumbled something and stood “extremely close” to her. When she backed away, he was exposed, but then he ran off.

Finally just after midnight, a 25-year-old woman reported being followed past the Primark store in Western Road. She crossed to avoid him, but was followed.

He swore at her and threatened to stab her, so she shouted for help, and another man approached, causing the suspect to flee.
