FORMER Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears delighted fans at an intimate HMV in-store signing session before a sold-out club performance.

Shears is best known for his role with the New York camp rockers but wants to make a name for himself away from the band.

Fans queued round the aisles of HMV music store in Brighton’s Churchill Square on Thursday night for the chance to meet their idol.

He did not disappoint, taking time to sign albums and pose for photos.

He then headed down to the Concorde 2 in Madeira Drive, where some 600 people packed in to see him perform.

Singing hits from his recently released self-titled debut album and throwing in a few Scissor Sisters hits for good measure, Shears showed the sold-out crowd he does not need his bandmates to provide a great show.

Forged in New York’s famed LGBT nightlife scene in 2001, Scissor Sisters took the world by storm with their upbeat, high- energy, and, in some cases, plain crazy pop music.

Their self-titled debut album thrust them into the media spotlight, making them a household name the world over.

With a sound that can only be described as a mix between Electric Six, Queen and Kylie Minogue, their look was new, fresh, and made them big stars.

At the centre of the madness was Jake Shears, along with fellow vocalists Ana Matronic and Scott Hoffman.

Their trail-blazing vocal style broke the mould of generic pop music.

In 2012 the group went on a break and ever since Shears has voiced his intentions of forging a solo career.

He is now proving himself as more than just a Scissor Sister with the release of his self-titled debut solo album.
