PEOPLE from all walks of life came together at the weekend to celebrate the annual Brunswick Festival.

Thousands partied to the sound of live music in Brunswick Square, Hove, 37 years after the event was launched.

Organisers said homeless people worked as stewards and took part in the fun with other residents, young and old.

Record numbers turned out, too, with more than 5,000 members of the community getting involved across Saturday and Sunday.

Veronica Stephens has been co-ordinating Brunswick Festival for 20 years.

She said: “We’ve had a great time, everyone’s been really happy. Although we didn’t have blistering sunshine, it was still full of lots of people.

“We could tell it was a good weekend when we ran out of cake at about 5pm and they had to go and bake some more.

“The highlight for me has been seeing so many different people from different walks of life side by side, enjoying music.

“There has been a good feeling of community.”

The festival began as a “low-key family picnic event”, Veronica said, and has grown as the years have rolled on.

Now thousands take part in the fun year after year, with art stalls, bands, beer tents and plenty of other attractions.
