Police sealed off a city street amid fears of a fire in a block of flats only for it to turn out to be burnt cooking.

Emergency services were called to Livingstone House in Clarendon Road, Hove, at 10.30pm yesterday after reports of smoke coming from one of the apartments.

When firefighters arrived they quickly discovered the call was a false alarm and spoke to the residents whose kitchen had caused the problem.

I don't believe it! More trouble being caused by the Clarendon slackers!

They have been complaining about not being able to clean their kitchens and so buying expensive take-aways which make their offspring obese. They have complained about blocked rubbish-chutes because they are too lazy to take out the rubbish themselves. They keep causing problems with their bathrooms and so washing themselves on the balcony - and now their dodgy cooking has the neighbourhood cordoned off!

the place is a health hazard. What next for Clarendon?

It looks as if Clarendon is determined to become Hove's very own Whitehawk.

Perhaps ASDA should stop deliveries there if the residents can't cook.

There would probably be more of these incidents except that most of the residents in Clarendon simply bung something in the microwave by way of culinary endeavour.

This incident has probably terrified them, and none will now dare risk using a cooker.

The incident could spark a new genre of ASBO - 'Clarendon resident banned from the kitchen'

It would clearly be unwise for any Clarendonites to go all retro and set up a fondue over some candles while they scoff the bread and melted cheese.

No wonder there are all these Clarendon slackers. They have boiled all the goodness out of their food. They should gnaw on raw carrots and celery to try and make up the cranium shortfall.
