There was no love lost between a restaurateur and Gordon Ramsay when the TV chef came to the rescue of a failing seafood eaterie.

The foul-mouthed chef was even thrown out of Ruby Tate's seafood restaurant by owner Allan Love, who did not think he needed any help in saving his business.

The restaurant, in St James's Street, Brighton, which changed its name to Love's under Ramsay's instruction, is the first to feature in the new series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which will be broadcast on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 9pm.

Love's is owned and run by ex-actor Mr Love. It is situated in Kemp Town one street back from the beach.

Ironically, Mr Love has never tasted any of the dishes at the oyster and seafood restaurant because he hates fish.

Mr Love was losing £1,500 a week when Ramsay turned up at his business.

Ramsay told him there was an urgent need to get back to basics, galvanise the staff and produce great and simple food to bring the punters back before it was too late.

The programme was filmed in July and was described as a "traumatic week" by Mr Love. The chef also fell into the sea at Brighton Marina while walking the plank in a team-building exercise.

Mr Love said: "After Gordon Ramsay's makeover Ruby Tates is now deceased, and rising out of the ashes is Love's fish restaurant, an exciting new restaurant concept.

"Thank you Gordon for your conceptual foresight and input and thanks all who visited Ruby's over the past year."
