THE pilot who died when his plane crashed near Heathfield has been named.

Richard Warriner, 65, from Burwash, had been flying a light aircraft that came down near Herrings Lane just after 11am on Tuesday.

His body was recovered from the wreckage.

Fire crews rushed to the scene and arrived to find the plane alight.

They worked quickly to extinguish the fire and were joined by ambulance crews and the police.

One witness said they had seen the plane experiencing problems during take-off before crashing shortly afterwards and catching fire.

The plane hit the ground just a few hundred feet from a famous singer’s Sussex estate, it has been reported.

It is said to have narrowly missed the home of musician Rag’n’Bone man.

The crash is being investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
