Guantanamo Bay protest in Worthing

Demonstrators held a protest over the controversial Guantanamo Bay jail.

Shoppers in Worthing came face to face with those behind the event, who donned hoods and blindfolds to show solidarity with those currently inside the Cuban prison.

They called on the American authorities to shut down Guantanamo Bay and release all those held.

It comes just weeks after the release of Saltdean resident Omar Deghayes.

The 38-year-old terror suspect was arrested in Pakistan five years ago and is said to have suffered serious injury during his incarceration.

However he never faced any charges.

A spokesman for the protest yesterday said: "There is absolutely no case to keep the jail open.

"All those being held should be put through the necessary legal process or released immediately."
