More than 100 campaigners rallied in Brighton to call on Prime Minister Gordon Brown to adopt a tougher stance on climate change.
Friends of the Earth protesters were joined by MPs at Pavilion Gardens on Saturday.
They called for the Government's new Climate Change Bill to cover all sources of carbon dioxide emissions, including those generated by aviation and shipping.
Brenda Pollack, of Friends of the Earth, said: "There is a real groundswell of support in our region for a climate change law that is fit for purpose.
"But the fact that only 15 local MPs have signed the petition to include international aviation emissions does not reflect public concern. We must see more widespread support from MPs."
Brighton Kemptown MP Des Turner and Hove and Portslade MP Celia Barlow attended.
Mr Turner said: "Climate change is far and away the most important thing on the political agenda."Ms Barlow said: "We've had a really good turnout and it's very pleasing to see how many people care about climate change. I've had more than 700 letters from my constituents since Christmas on the subject."
