Controversial plans to turn a former brickworks into a landfill site have been unveiled.
The Laybrook Brickworks site, at Goose Green Lane, Thakeham, near Pulborough, has been identified as one of three possible landfill sites in the Horsham district by West Sussex County Council.
The other two - at Langhurstwood Quarry and Brookhurst Wood, both in Warnham - are still being considered.
At Thakeham, waste company Cory Environmental has submitted a "scoping report" which outlines its plans to the county council.
It wants to fill the site with so-called "residual waste" - the rubbish left over after recyclable materials had been removed.
The land would then be restored in phases to create agricultural land, woodland and wetlands.
But campaigners living nearby have criticised the plans, claiming the proposed landfill would not be environmentally-friendly and would be dangerous to human health.
A copy of the report can be viewed at coryenvironmental.co.uk.
