A couple who are battling to save their new garden fence have taken their fight online.

Spencer and Victoria Adams, of Parklands Avenue, Goring, have been given two months to reduce the height of the 6ft 6in brick-and-fence construction by half.

Worthing Borough Council described the fence, part of a £25,000 landscaping package for the corner-plot property, as "alien".

No application for planning permission was submitted to the council before work started on the wall.

The recommendation for enforcement action approved at the council's development control committee meeting described the wall and fence design as "an alien and visually intrusive form of development into the street scene".

But Mr and Mrs Adams, who have two young boys, are appealing against the committee's decision.

Mr Adams, a 31-year-old graphic designer, said: "The term 'alien' is just one person's opinion.

"We would not have done it if we thought it would look alien.

"We have received nothing but positive comments and feedback from the neighbourhood to the point of anonymous letters being posted to us in support of our plight and suggestions that we start a petition."

The pair have now set up an online petition.

Mrs Adams said: "We are acting in the best interest of our family, whom we want to protect from the busy main road and provide a safe place for them to go about daily life."

While I can understand any parent wanting to protect their children this fence really does appear out of place. Perhaps in time it would look a little better but I certainly think it is too high for where it is situated.

That isn't the most attractive fence I've ever seen, quite a long way from it actually. Think the council might be right on this one.

In East Sussex you have to obtain planning permission for a fence over 6ft high.

Modern days, modern design.WHAT is the matter with worthing council?
The family has two children and a dog to look after. The council doesnt object to cctv everywere so why should it object the safety of 2 children safety. The governemt lets all the wrong people out of jail early, and we cant protect our properties. What a mess this country is now. And so for the people that think it too big and alien you should go to kingston korse in east preston. So please all of you let this family live in peace. If you people think its not attractive take a look at yourselfs!!!!(jealou
s maybe.)Hahahaha.
