Couples have had their weddings spoilt after a specialist cake shop closed without telling its customers.

Amity Creations in Broadwater Street West, Worthing, has failed to fulfil orders, leaving many people fuming.

The problem emerged on Friday when bride-to-be Linda Keavney went to collect the top of her wedding cake the day before her wedding to David Keavney.

She had paid £100 for the top, complete with specially designed figurines featuring a groom in a Celtic football strip.

Mrs Keavney, 50, of Shadwells Road, Lancing, said: “I wanted the figurines done as a surprise for my husband because he is so passionate about his football team.

“I went to the shop on the Friday but it was closed and up for sale.

“There was no note on the door and I was just left in tears.

“I had to rush around trying to get a replacement. In the end I got a cake top which had flowers on it. It just wasn’t what I wanted.

“These people had my telephone number and they should have had the courtesy to call me.

There are bound to be lots of others left in the lurch.”

Despite the last-minute drama, the couple’s wedding at Worthing Register Office went ahead without further problems and they are now preparing for their honeymoon in the New Forest next week.

Repeated phone calls to Amity Creations firm went unanswered yesterday.

The shop is just yards from a bridal shop which went bust in April last year.

Marrying a Scottish football supporter - perhaps the shop was trying to tell her something

With all the misery and deaths reported in the Argus in the last 7 days, I feel absolutely nothing, reading about a couple loosing their £100 wedding cake. Slow news day???

Is response to vix-1 Steyning - not obvious at all!! I have been happily married for 12 years. My dream wedding didn't go according to plan as my husband was ill and we wondered if he would make it through the day - thank goodness he did! We made the most of it with all our family and friends around us. Sorry to hear their wedding is a disaster because of a cake! I'm glad to read the rest of the day went well and hope they enjoy the New Forest.
