A cake maker has been officially told her treats are fit for a queen.

Emma Slinn’s gluten and dairy free goodies have been so successful since she launched them a year ago that she received a call with an order from Buckingham Palace.

Guests at the Queen’s summer garden parties, which took place throughout July, were treated to two specialities made by the 33-year-old, from Brede, near Hastings.

She has now been told that her mini lemon drizzle and coffee sponge cakes went down a storm, although she has not yet found out whether any passed Her Majesty’s lips.

Miss Slinn, who runs the company Pure Flavour, said: “I did not go myself but I’ve been told the Queen checks on all the food being served personally so I have a nice image in my mind of her walking along a long table laid out with the dishes and when she gets to the cakes one of the staff stops her to point out they are a new addition. Of course, she then tastes one and thinks they are delicious.”

Miss Slinn was approached out of the blue by Buckingham Palace’s caterers, who were looking for a supplier of cakes suitable for people who were intolerant of gluten and dairy products.

They had discovered her website, www.pureflavour.co.uk, and asked her to send samples. They had placed an order for hundreds of cakes within hours of receiving the tasters.

Miss Slinn set up her company in August 2007 after leaving her previous career in the sales and marketing teams of cosmetic firms L’Oreal and Esprit, based in London and Asia.
