Fire at disused pub

8:55am Thursday 28th August 2008

By Ben Parsons »

A fire broke out at a derelict pub.

The Golden Martlet in Station Road, Hellingly, near Hailsham, was reported to be on fire at about 12.45am today.

The fire took hold on the ground and first floors of the building.

Firefighters were still at the scene seven hours later dealing with the remaining hotspots.

The cause of the blaze was being investigated but police confirmed they had been informed.

The pub has been targeted several times since it was forced to close after an arson in 2001.

In June last year 30 firefighters spent four hours tackling a blaze at the site.
