Free Argus offers will help readers beat credit crunch

You will be able to save pounds on everything from beer, pizza, clothes and bread thanks to The Argus.

The credit crunch has affected thousands of people across Sussex.

House-building plans have been put on hold, holiday companies have collapsed, businesses have been forced to close and even people’s diets have suffered from the cash squeeze.

On Saturday St Barnabas House Hospice in Southwick closed its doors for the last time.

Despite ten years of trading staff at the charity shop said that particular store couldn’t survive the economic downturn.

Similarly John Lighton, who is closing down the Brighton Angler fishing shop on Brighton seafront, blamed the credit crunch for the end of his business.

At the other end of the spectrum, Crawley-based holiday giant, XL, went into liquidation ten days ago, leaving thousands of people stranded across the world.

Once again ’fuel prices’ and ’the economic climate’ were to blame, according to bosses.

Now The Argus has decided to take on the challenge of the cash crisis and make sure that even though purse strings are tight there is still the opportunity to have fun and support businesses at the same time.

Every Friday there will be a two-page ’Beat The Credit Crunch With The Argus’ guide, providing money saving tips, discount vouchers and deals.

There will be lists of offers from supermarkets, restaurants, bars and shops.

As well as saving cash on food and drink there will also be the chance to get theatre tickets at slashed prices.

This Friday vouchers will be available for Cafe Rouge, Subway, The Priory Restaurant in Haywards Heath, Eastbourne Theatre and more.

The Food on Friday supplement will also give people the chance to claim a free bottle of Cava when dining at Pinxtopeople.

So don’t miss The Argus on Friday.

If you are a trader or a business with an offer please let The Argus know by contacting Naomi Loomes at naomi.loomes@theargus.co.uk or Emily-Ann Elliott at emily.elliott@theargus.co.uk or call Naomi on 01273 544547.

You must think we are really stupid, we have the major supermarkets offering to help by offering cheap booze, and now you want to help by offering vouchers to restaurants and cheep booze. People want reasonable priced food and cuts in the millions of pounds they pay in the various made up taxes, a fairer distribution of wealth. As someone would say YOU PLONKERS.

The Credit Crunch should be giving eveyone the incentive to cut down on 'so called' junk food, excessive shopping, food wastage and perhaps help the big problem of obesity.
Nobody needs vouchers for pizza or beer...they are delivered as junk mail every day.
Use the credit crunch as a means to help yourself to get fit Lots of walking, lots of real food...it is cheaper if you make it yourself.
Western Rd changes its shops almost daily..no matter what the economy is like. Shops close and shops open, some have got good stock and some have judged badly or overpriced their goods.
The Credit Crunch is going to be blamed for everything that goes wrong, and nobody will be taking any blame for being bad business managers, bad homemakers, overspenders, over chargers and inability to juggle finances.
If you are trying to save money, you don't even THINK of restaurants and theatres..let alone 50p off or a free bottle of plonk.
You REALLY can live without it.
Restaurants that don't charge fantacy prices will survive, like the long standing restaurants in Brighton and Hove that have withstood the ups and downs of economies.

Get real please Argus staff and stop using it as a free gimmick to get traders to advertise with you.

I wouldn't call it "fighting against the credit crunch", but I like the idea.

Bit pathetic Argus. The last thing anyone needs is free booze and salt laden pizza! How about some useful ideas. Like how to get free or grant aided insulation. The best fuel tariffs. Good supermarket offers (not booze) Easy, nourishing, cheap recipes etc. Plus all the 10% discounts available to the over 60s. There's a whole world of money saving out there Argus!

And visit saynoto0870.com to get cheaper or freephone numbers. Just put in the 08 number and get an alternative to being ripped off by those utilities that give you a five minute preamble to rack up the charge. Most banks and gov. depts. have freephone numbers that they don't advertise!

I agree with all the above. I was particularly peed off with a promo the Argus did a few weeks ago - "get a free Mars bar with a purchase of the paper" - why could it not be get a free banana or apple or bottle of water instead. Get your act together Argus.

savings on theatre tickets and posh restaurants,I think most affected people will be worried about where the next family meal comes from not some gimmicks for the middle class.
