Forget the Norman invasion. Brighton has seen the Norman conquest.

Fears about overcrowding at Fatboy Slim's Big Beach Boutique 4 were brushed aside as the Hove-based DJ, aka Norman Cook, thrilled fans on Saturday night.

Around 20,000 packed into a sun-baked Madeira Drive to witness an action-packed set.

This was as far from his New Year's Day gig as could have been possible.

Perfect weather was enjoyed across the city all day, a far cry from the wind and rain which lashed the event on January 1, causing Cook to suffer electric shocks from his equipment. And as Fatboy took to the stage at 8pm, the conditions remained excellent.

He played a series of his classics and even had video footage of his beloved Brighton and Hove Albion beating Manchester City in midweek beamed onto the big screens behind him.

Ever the crowd-pleaser, Cook also introduced one or two new tunes into the mix.

Slightly nervous before the event, the DJ told the Argus he was thrilled to be ending a summer of gigs around the World in Brighton.

Wife Zoe Ball and son Woody looked on from the crowds.

And the pair may also have something else to celebrate soon.

Cook revealed before stepping on stage that they are trying for a new baby.

Certainly after New Year's Day's fiasco, Big Beach Boutique has been born again.
