Fire crews are tackling a blaze which broke out in two derelict buildings on the seafront.

They were called to the properties in Kingsway, Hove, opposite the King Alfred at 6.34pm today.

The fire, next to the Princes Marine Hotel, is believed to have spread through the ground and first floor.

No one has had to be evacuated from the hotel and crews are using an aerial ladder platform, three hose reels and foam to douse the flames.

Did you see the fire or did you take any picture? Email them to news@theargus.co.uk and leave your comments below.

Well, another "empty" building mysteriously comes to an end in Brighton...

Seriously, what is up with that?

I can't remember if they are detached or semi but if the former its certainly suspicious that they both caught fire at once.

Yes there does seem to be a problem with spontaneously combusting buildings in Brighton. Let's hope the bandstand doesn't burn down - I know cast iron can be highly flammable.

These are the derelict pair of semi-detached houses (149 and 151)which have recently been refused planning permission for demolition and replacement by a block of eight flats. Will now be more difficult to restore as houses?

this pair of houses have been empty and squatted in for a long time, squatters have a habit of setting fire to things, any way it sounds a bit dodgy. this pair of houses were once beautiful, (although not as beautiful as the westbourne hospital on new church road that is now being made into modern holiday accommodation,) but now are surrounded by large apartment blocks so look out of place, i think they should be made into art deco apartments, if chris ewbank can get away with it why cant this developer/owner. oh yeah and what is happening to the other derelict site along the kingsway the sackville hotel which mysteriously fell down after being bought? me thinks there are major problems with the planning dept. in this city.

did anyone see the beautiful proposed building that was refused planning permission only a couple of weeks ago? it was second time around as well, having responded on all points to the previous rejection. why wont the planning department pass well thought out and architecturally stunning proposals - they would rather leave these buildings to (a) house squatters or (b) rot. its outrageous. i hope the developer goes to appeal and the higher bodies allow the development to go ahead. its ridiculous!

Yep those places do have squatters in, I caught a glimpse of one of them getting into the house by climbing up and through the top window. It has been left to ruin and is now amok with squatters who like nothing better than to live freely in a derelict house while they pump themselves full of Heroin and Crack.

Too right Monty, its a shame none of them died, a few less DHSS claims!

'Squatters have a habit of setting fire to things'. Not ones who actually want to keep a place to live. Now if you were to say 'greedy developers who have their planning permission for demolition turned down have a habit of setting fire to things' I'd think you were more along the right lines.

It's very well documented that developers who don't get their way/have some competition/want a prime piece of real estate but the owners won't sell, these places just mysteriously burn to the ground. Happens frequently.

And Brigadier Monty, you're a fool. The majority of squatters are not involved in crack and heroin at all. Most squatters I know are politically motivated, not homeless.
