Scores of heavy-drinking yobettes are having to be stopped by police for antisocial behaviour on Sussex’s streets, force statistics have revealed.
Figures obtained using the Freedom of Information Act show police are handing out more and more on the spot fines to deal with drunken women.
Critics blame the increase on the introduction of 24-hour drinking in November 2005.
From April 2004 to April 2005 369 fixed penalty notices were given to women, including 29 girls aged 16 and 17.
But from April 2007 to April 2008 1,136 fixed penalty notices were given to women, including 71 to girls aged 16 and 17.
Yobettes picked up fines for offences such as being drunk and disorderly, drunk in the highway, drinking in a public place, vandalism and abusive behaviour.
Police have been increasingly issuing fixed penalty notices to deal with antisocial behaviour rather than taking offenders to court.
