Yob fines for women soar

Scores of heavy-drinking yobettes are having to be stopped by police for antisocial behaviour on Sussex’s streets, force statistics have revealed.

Figures obtained using the Freedom of Information Act show police are handing out more and more on the spot fines to deal with drunken women.

Critics blame the increase on the introduction of 24-hour drinking in November 2005.

From April 2004 to April 2005 369 fixed penalty notices were given to women, including 29 girls aged 16 and 17.

But from April 2007 to April 2008 1,136 fixed penalty notices were given to women, including 71 to girls aged 16 and 17.

Yobettes picked up fines for offences such as being drunk and disorderly, drunk in the highway, drinking in a public place, vandalism and abusive behaviour.

Police have been increasingly issuing fixed penalty notices to deal with antisocial behaviour rather than taking offenders to court.

24 hour drinking has nothing to do with this sort of behaviour. people's inability to hold their drink, or drink sensibly is the cause. europe doesn't have this problem, as children are taught about drinking from an early age, often drinking watered down wine with meals. drinking abroad is a social thing, where folk do not drink to excess, but merely as an addition to meeting friends. over here, the friday and saturday night culture is to drink as much as possible, then walk the streets, throwing up and swearing at anyone you see. in my experience, girls are worse than men, as they cannot hold their drink as well as men. we need to get away from this culture, and try to introduce european ideas.

Pubs, Bars and Clubs should be restricted to only being allowed to sell certain types of drinks to women and never to groups of more than two.

The police also need to do more to ensure that they are out on the streets late in the evenings where there presence will intimidate people into being much better behaved.

To echo Davyboys comments. This is a pecularly Engish disease. I go to France regularly and have NEVER seen drunk French woman. I've only seen 1 drunk Frenchman in all my visits. It's nothing to do with licensing laws. It's all to do with the English psyche.

In countries with a more sensible attitude to drink than ours, it is a matter of shame to be out of control through drink in public. Many women and indeed many men cannot hold their drink, yet even when obviously in difficulty, are still served by town centre bars hell bent on profit above responsibility.
