An investigation into an accident which seriously injured a bonfire spectator is still being carried out a year on.

Kalvinder Gahir, from St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes, was hit on the head by piece of wood during the Lewes bonfire celebrations on November 5 last year.

Lewes District Council’s environmental health department is still carrying out the investigation into the accident at the Cliffe Bonfire Society firesite.

An eye-witness said he saw debris flying into the crowd after a giant effigy of a seagull was exploded by the bonfire society as a statement on Albion’s plans for a new stadium at Falmer.

Miss Gahir was seriously injured and was treated at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre in Haywards Heath.

This week a spokesman for the district council said it will issue a statement "as and when the final result of the investigation is known".
