A gang armed with sledgehammers stole Rolex watches after a smash and grab raid on a jewellers.

Police were called to reports of a number of men robbing Watches of Switzerland in Ship Street, Brighton, at around noon.

Three men, all wearing white paper overalls and dust masks, entered the shop and used sledgehammers to smash through interior glass panels.

They made off with a number of Rolex watches. The total value of the stolen property is unknown at this stage.

The men got into a nearby silver Volvo being driven by a fourth man. However this was quickly abandoned in Prince Albert Street and all four suspects made off on foot towards the seafront.

The car has been recovered for a forensic examination and police are currently seizing CCTV from the area.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Brighton CID on 0845 6070999, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

How much would you pay for a stolen Rolex with no box or papers, that you can never legally sell on or have properly repaired or serviced? A couple of hundred at most?

There are four guys splitting the profit and the massive risk that goes with it.

There must be easier ways to make a living

Having just come back from there, (not connected!!) I can only conclude they werent local - anyone who thinks they could make a swift getaway from the centre of Brighon is deluded!

looks like they will be enjoying cold turkey this christmas. The seafront is a good place if you want to stay anonymous, not many cameras!!! Round 'em all up, And go and smash their homes up with sledgehammers, see how they would like it. Scum.

My getaway technique would be to leap on a swift horse and make a bolt for the door! NONE SHALL CATCH WATCH-THIEF SPOONER!

Not that I'd steal from a shop. But if I did I'd get the horse to kick down the doors!

It was around about 12:10pm when it all kicked off

What point are you making about Police taking 10 mins. I assume that when the call about the robbery came in the caller was asked "Are the robbers still at the scene?" and replied that they weren't. Therefore, what would be the point of going straight to the shop as the robbers get away? Surely attending Police officers would sweep the area looking for people who matched descriptions given by those reporting the incident.

Why do people like you feel the need to knock Police at all opportunity? What job do you do that helps us?

lol, it won't take much for them to sell them on I'm sure, either abroad like Nigeria, or just clone the watch back on a genuine one and put on the nicked watches, thats the only place they have id numbers anyway.

As for the box and papers, p*ss simple to get them made up by a friendly manufacturer in china etc.

BTW wasnt it just around the corner from todays incident (a couple of years ago) where a shopkeeper caught a robber in his shop, locked him in but the old bill were 'too busy' to attend and nick the fella resulting in said shopkeeper having to let robber go - you couldnt make it up!!!

Who on earth would want one of these stupidly priced baubles? A £7 Casio keeps perfect time and lasts for years with no expensive 'servicing' rip offs!
