Rolls Royce cuts temporary jobs

Luxury car maker Rolls Royce is cutting 40 temporary jobs in response to a 'softening' in sales, the firm announced today.

The company, which employs about 900 workers at its factory in Goodwood, near Chichester, said it had been reasonably insulated from the economic downturn so far with continued growth in the first three quarters of the year and anticipated double digit percentage growth at year end.

The firm said in a statement: "We are, however, beginning to see a softening in sales in a number of regions and as a consequence are adjusting our production accordingly.

"We are taking a number of immediate and prudent steps, including a reduction in temporary staff and adding non-production days to our programme. Production flexibility is a fundamental of Rolls-Royce systems and this allows us to adjust our volumes in a straightforward way. There are no plans for permanent employee job losses.

"The company remains in good shape with one of the strongest brand names in the world and the launch of an exciting new model on the immediate horizon."

The company will have two non-production days next week and is planning a two week shutdown over Christmas.

Well they we only temporary jobs, did they really expect they were permanent jobs? So no real news apart for a cheap advert for Rolls Royce and the Argus bite.
