Motorists have been warned that the westbound carriageway of the A259 at Ovingdean has been closed following a crash.

And a broken down bus is reported to be causing traffic chaos on the A24 just north of Findon.

The vehicle, which is stuck at the Washington roundabout, is believed to be causing traffic to build up behind it as vehicles struggle to flow over the roundabout.

At Ovingdean, two cars collided along the busy stretch of road at around 4.30pm, causing traffic to build up behind the accident.

One driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound carriageway remains open while police clear the scene.

Engineers from Brighton and Hove City Council have also been called to deal with exposed wires on a lamppost that was damaged in the crash.

The accident happened just near the exit/entrance to the infamous new A259 coast road bus lane.

It was only a mater of time before a bad accident happened here.

I hope the drivers involved are OK

surprise surprise the a259 where the notorious bus lanes are. blood on the hands of the idiotic highway team, now will they listen and put this whole **** ridiculous scheme to bed and put it back as it was and worked perfectly well for many many years. so much money to spend on the roads to make them more congested but not enough to clean up this filthy city, shameful and shocking waste of council tax and car tax payers money, by the previous labour administration. lets hope the new tory one gets the roads right and moving and stops building out bus stops and curbs.

And cars never had an accident on the 259 pre bus lanes? All you moaners get out of your cars and into buses. Get home quicker and safer.

For the record the bus line is on the other side of the road! The accident was more likely caused by yet another another case of idiotic driving just like the accident a few months ago at Roedean when a driver did a u-turn despite there being a no u-turn sign!

Nothing about the broken down bus on Fox Way this morning and all the students that had to wait over an hour for the replacement to come along getting them to work late and very cold...

I was driving along the A259 (eastbound) just minutes after the accident. Nobody seemed badly hurt, everyone was out of their cars. It happened just by the roundabout, quite a bad shunt as the rear bumper of the car that was hit was almost completely off. Nothing to do with the bus lane, it was the other side of the road.

Hasn't there been any news today? This is yesterday's!
Surely, with all this freeze up there must have been some other accidents today to report on - or has everyone at Argus central taken the weekend off?

I saw that broken down bus at the Washington Roundabout, frustrated motorists may like to know it was a 30 YEAR OLD Leyland NAtional bus. I dont believe buses that old have any right to be on the road (in service or not).

It wasnt one of Jolly Rogers, it was green and cream and very very old

Couldnt agree more bug eye>The council will have blood on their hands soon im sure of it.Take a look at the castle square new "safer" junction that must have cost thousands of our precious council tax money and watch most people crossing when the man is red and the buses narrowly avoid hitting someone. The junction worked perfectly ok before this mess, they say they have no funding for the great park and ride to carry on??what hypocrites, they might have had enough funding had they not done these pointless traffic schemes. What about the pointless Cycle lane at the top of trafalger street?i dont think i have seen a single cyclist use it.They are to busy going through red lights and up one way streets the wrong way.

Traffic 'chaos'..the poor old Argus still drags out that word. A word which correctly means uncontrolled panic or something similar.
If the traffic is not moving, then how can it be chaos.
It always beats me that when a crash occurs (I don't call them accidents) the road has to be closed for seemingly ages. Why not just get the vehicles off the road and keep the traffic moving.
If we adopted the system used for insurance on the mainland it could help free things up.
Each driver has a form which must be filled in to claim. All the drivers involved have to sign the form as being a true statement of the facts - no changing your mind afterwards. It is harder for people to have a sudden change of mind later, and the matter is cleared up more quickly.

A"nd cars never had an accident on the 259 pre bus lanes? All you moaners get out of your cars and into buses. Get home quicker and safer."

Heres someone who thinks everyone works within a few miles of home and that a bus is a viable option.

What a ****!

And definitely not quicker or cheaper.

I'd take public transport just a little bit more seriously if:
It provided a 24 hr service, a frequent one at that. And, the entire network didn't decide to take a holiday at Christmas. It's strange when all our neighbouring countries provide MORE buses and trains at holiday times - and more waste disposal.
Travelling on the so called 'late' trains along the coast can be a near death experience. Plus, if you don't have concessions an expensive one.
