Fatboy Slim's Sussex party date revealed

Fatboy Slim will return to Brighton for his fifth Big Beach Boutique party.

Brighton and Hove City Council has earmarked September 4 and 5 for the latest of the DJ's seafront gigs.

In a report to Councillor David Smith, cabinet member for culture, the council has confirmed plans to close Madeira Drive for the event.

A separate report to the council's cabinet will be drafted once full details are received.

A licence will also need to be approved by councillors.

Organiser Loud Sound has told police it will cut the number of revellers for future events and rearrange the site following safety concerns at the 2008 gig.

exactly, now the argus and its trainee meedja "journalists" will do their best to slag off the Party.

Slagging is good practice for when they join the mirror and the sun

Let's face it, everybody here knows he does it for the money NOT for the people of Brighton, if it was for them then he'd be donating ALL the proceeds to Brighton charities wouldn't he, and not be continually bleating on about it being for us, cos frankly it isn't!

Get a decent DJ like Tiesto in I say, not old HatBoy Slim, he's past his sell by date!

And can we forget that his first one was so badly organised somebody died at the event.

Go away Fat Boy, back to Millionaires Row and count your cash!

Can I suggest instead of this tired old nonsense we get some PROPER djs in to spin some disks from the Hit Parade?

I recommend Tony Blackburn and Terry Wogan, or possibly Emperor Rosko.

I do struggle to understand the Council's fascination with this tired old has been while there are numerous far more contemporary turns in Brighton & Hove, like the Kooks and the Maccabees. Oh well, typical Council, living in the past and out of touch with reality etc. etc.

Cashboy, like that one lol, he owns at least 2 houses (possibly 3) on "millionaires row" on the seafront, so probably needs to raise some more cash to pay for the upkeep on his £5 million plus houses!

kerching, doin it for Brighton people, kerching, kerching, pass the till roll, kerching...

I take it you lot of moaners won't be attending this brilliant event then?

Fatboy is an excellent DJ from Brighton, thats what makes it so good. Tiesto, Van Dyk etc may be better but they aren't from Brighton so wouldn't be as good. It will be another great event and I am really looking forward to it.

And to the person that suggested the Kooks playing instead....why don't you contact The Free Butt, thats that kind of musics level.

I am just so tired will all these moaners. As soon as a story gets posted here an army of them turns up and starts spoiling everything.
Fatboy isn't the best DJ in the world, but he is an excellent artist who has recorded some fantastic albums. Fatboy's Big Beach Boutiques are what the spirit of Brighton and Hove is all about. Thousands of people dancing in front of a local DJ on Brighton seafront is a beautiful picture and if all you moaners aren't happy about him DJing just move to Eastbourne and sit down on the benches to watch the sunset eating your soggy fish and chips.
This doesn't happen all year round, it happens ONE day in the year, and good job it does because if these sort of events get cancelles then Brighton looses a part of its identity. Yeah he might be doing for the money, but he does love Brighton and I don't see many acts playing or DJing in their home town in front of thousands of people every year.
Qs The Argus said today, people all round Britain and Europe will see the images once again and Brighton will continue to be seen as a fashionable, lively place to live!
Bring it on Fatboy!

Oh for goodness sake! What kind of bizarre planet do you people live on? Of course he's not going to donate all of the money he makes to charity - who the hell does? Fatboy brings a lot of business to Brighton by doing events like this, and I think anyone who thinks that any business person should donate all their earnings are clearly stupid. He brings money in to Brighton in other ways. These events (whether he REALLY does it for the people of Brighton or not) do give people who like dance music something to do. And it's not just about him - the Sept 08 gig had great support acts, especially Beardyman - who is Brightonian.

So if you don't like it, don't go.

Better still, why don't you donate some of your hard earned cash to charity, you hypocrite.

mix feelings at the moment. great a few years ago in the rain, but SO over priced beers. it was better when it was free on the beach. OH and for the record, that someone who died, was a nurse and she fell from the railings at 3am NOT during or even after the event had ended at 10:30 yes it was 10.30 or even 10.15 the police stopped it, i was on the beach and it was fabulous, because it was free. now need some sweets for septemberrrrrrrrrrrr
rr. remember dont take drugs, buy your own... anda bottle of vodka

Please note that Fatboy lives in HOVE not Brighton! He should face his responsibilities as a fellow Hovite and promote Hove (and it's one-day hopeful independance from 'Blighton'). Then again, at least he takes his party across the border and leaves Hove in peace!

No-one died at the first event - it was fantastic, pretty much unpublicised and a great night for all of us there.

The subsequent events (including the one the death occurred after - the second of the events?) have all been horrendous because of poor organisation and over-crowding.

Didn't the last one fail to sell out? And huge numbers of people left before he even started?

Let's hope this one is different.

Calling it a party is way off the mark. It's sole purpose is money, we've established that. Truth is Brighton, and this 'paper' are mugs and will lap this up every time. Especially the argus who will cash in again no doubt.

what a miserable boring sad old bunch of middle agers you all are. Clearly none of you have ever been eh!

Last year was brilliant. yeah it was £35, but it ran from 2pm to 11pm. Most concerts at the brighton centre start at 8pm and end just 10pm and cost the same.

its for young people who grew up listening to his music, let us enjoy it, maybe he is a bit has been but im sure you old hags would queue up for the beatles still if you could - because its relevant to you.

i dont care where hes from really, or how rich he is - he puts on a good show that 25,000 people enjoy each year.

Unbelievable. It seems only weeks ago that I was writing about what an unmitigated disaster the last one was. Dreadfully organised, aggressively stewarded and policed, appalling lack of toilet facilities, mediocre at best sets from the djs and dangerous crushing. These are not opinions, COLD FACTS.

The first two real ones were amazing, three was average, four was one of the worst and most dangerous events one could imagine. Wouldn't even go if I thought all profits would be ploughed back into the Albion. No fun anymore. Norman played a Mandela benefit gig I helped organise in 89 at the Brixton academy - there's no doubt he's a good man. However, I think he might just have sold out...

VOTE WITH YOUR FEET, LET NORMAN MAKE HIS MONEY IN IMMORAL AND CORRUPT PLACES LIKE DUBAI (as he's about to shortly). DO NOT GO.

I object to a public right of way being closed off for the benefit of a select group of out-of-town pill-heads, who have paid over the odds to listen to a past-his-sell-by-dat
e DJ.
Jog on, Fat Boy!
