A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called to Shelby Road, Durrington, Worthing, at 10.42pm following reports of a fight in the street.

They found a 26-year-old man with multiple stab injuries. He was taken to Worthing Hospital where he was pronounced dead at midnight. The man was local but of no fixed address.

His family have been informed and a police family liaison officer is with them.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man from Durrington shortly after 11pm. He is currently being questioned in custody.

Ch Insp Howard Hodges, district commander for Worthing, said: "There is obviously a lot of activity in the Shelby Road area involving scene of crime and forensic investigation.

"This is a routine response to a major incident and will continue for a while.

"If anyone has information or just wishes to talk to my officers on the cordon, they are very welcome to do so."

Det Ch Insp Adam Hibbert of Sussex Police's major crime branch, who is leading the investigation, has appealed for witnesses to the incident or anyone with information to contact police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Shefford.
